Holiday is an affordable housing neighborhood in North Boulder, Colorado. The assignment was to take an area within the neighborhood and find solutions to make the street safe for cyclists, pedestrians and cars. In other words, a complete street. The segment chosen was the underused main entrance to the neighborhood. I did include two small restaurants and a small commercial office, but the goal was to make the residents of Holiday want to use their commercial district instead of always traveling to the downtown area.
The complete project boasted several changes to the existing street. The first was to remove the curbs and resurface from building to building across the street in brick, which made the area for pedestrian traffic ambiguous, forcing drivers to slow down. Trees were planted in several of the parking spots keeping the walking areas straight and further lessening the auto traffic in the area.
